Max China

Max China

MAX CHINA is a British author known for crafting gripping tales that blur the line between psychological suspense, crime, and the supernatural. His stories pull readers into intricate plots with richly drawn characters, peeling back the layers of human nature’s darker side while grounding them in sharp realism.

His debut novel, The Sister, opened to mixed but mostly favourable reviews. Praised for its haunting atmosphere and taut narrative, it laid the foundation for a growing body of genre-blurring fiction exploring themes of resilience, morality, and the lasting weight of past decisions.

In 2014, Max was listed among THE TOP 50 BEST CRIME WRITERS TO WATCH, alongside Lee Child, Dennis Lehane, Harlan Coben, and Robert Galbraith (aka J.K. Rowling). He is known for creating terrifyingly credible serial killers and writing crime, mystery, and suspense thrillers that stay with readers long after the final page.

With titles like The Night of the Mosquito and The Crane Wife, Max weaves multi-layered narratives that keep readers guessing until the very end. His evocative prose and immersive settings transport readers into worlds that feel both vivid and unsettling.

When not at his desk, Max finds inspiration wandering the British countryside, where history and nature offer fertile ground for his imagination. A storyteller at heart, he strives to create books that challenge, captivate, and resonate deeply with his audience.

Writing from his home in the UK, Max China is currently at work on his next highly anticipated novel.

Where Did You Go?
Max China delivers a gripping psychological thriller in Where Did You Go, a tense and layered mystery that unearths dark secrets buried for decades. With a haunting disappearance at its core and a protagonist forced to question everything he thought he knew, this novel is an immersive, edge-of-your-seat read.

John Mason has spent years trying to move forward, but when an old friend pulls him back into the unsolved case of Julie Sanderson—the girl who vanished without a trace—his past refuses to stay buried. As memories resurface and suspicions grow, John finds himself caught in a dangerous game of deception and betrayal. Who can he trust? And why does his former mentor, Jim, seem so intent on making him the villain in a story he barely remembers?

China weaves a complex, slow-burning mystery that keeps the tension high from start to finish. The shifting loyalties, unreliable memories, and constant sense of unease make this a thriller that never lets up. With sharp prose and well-drawn characters, the novel explores the weight of guilt, the fragility of trust, and how the past never truly lets go.

This was my first book by Max China, and I’m already excited to explore more of his work. If you enjoy psychological thrillers that keep you guessing until the very last page, Where Did You Go is one to add to your list.

Where Did You Go?
I really liked this book. It was my first book by this author and I will definitely be reading more. Initially, I was a bit thrown, but by the 5th chapter, I was hooked. That ending as well, it just made me so emotional.

The Night of The Mosquito
Having read The Sister, and the William Boule books I had to buy more from this author. Gripping, intriguing and satisfying story telling. Thoroughly enjoyed.
